Background
Anton Barchuk obtained his MD (2005) from St. Petersburg Pavlov Medical University in 2005, completed training in thoracic surgery and defended his Candidate of Sciences (PhD, 2010) in Oncology. His primary interest was lung cancer early detection. In 2015, he started his education and work as an epidemiologist at Tampere University, Finland. Anton Barchuk defended his PhD in epidemiology at Tampere University in 2023.
He initiated and participated as an editor in the translation of ICD-O-3, published in 2017. In 2019-2020, he established a research centre and master's programme in Public Health at two universities in St.Petersburg and led research projects during the COVID-19 pandemic (SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence and vaccine effectiveness). He also contributes to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Global Initiative for Cancer Registry (CIGR), focusing on developing cancer registries in low and middle-income countries and quality assessment of cancer registry data. Anton’s scientific interests are focused on the use of cancer registry data for epidemiological research.
