Background

Julieta received an MD from the University of Buenos Aires, an MPH from the Universidad Pompeu Fabra. She completed her PhD with a “Rio Hortega” scholarship at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She completed two medical trainings (Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine & Public Health). Her academic training and research experience have provided her with an excellent background in multiple disciplines, including translational research in cancer resistance to targeted therapeutics (hematopoietic malignancies), evaluation of population-based cancer screening programs, epidemiology and surveillance of infectious and chronic diseases, epidemiology and surveillance of drug and alcohol use, and evaluation of harm reduction programs. She assisted in the COVID-19 response as a public health officer for Barcelona, Spain. Most recently, she evaluated the public health impact of free and unrestricted access to direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) for hepatitis C as part of the Plan to eliminate Hepatitis C in Spain.

Her research interests include infectious disease epidemiology, the epidemiology of alcohol & drug use and its consequences, chronic liver diseases, cancer epidemiology, the evaluation of public health interventions, and socioeconomic inequalities in health.
