Background

Marcel graduated as a software engineer in 1997. He did two internships at the Erasmus Medical Center and continued working there at the department of Medical Informatics.

His main responsibility is the Integrated Primary Care Information (IPCI) database, a research database containing patient data from over 700 Dutch general practitioners. This work includes the development of ETL processes for 10 different vendors, data profiling, data quality control, preparing the raw data for research and advising the researchers.

In OHDSI and the European Health Data and Evidence Network (EHDEN, www.ehden.eu) project he is contributing to the design and development of tools for ETL and database profiling.

His main interests are ETL, data profiling, data visualization and data quality.
